I have also been a Mets fan for 40 years. I haven't watched a basketball game in 30 years, don't watch hockey, don't watch much football anymore. All I look foward to every year is baseball season and my Mets. I have seen the good, the bad, and the truly horrendous and yet I remain loyal to this team. I even accept (altough I hate it) the fact that the Mets will always be the "other" team in New York.
This year despite all the "talking heads" telling me this team was "the team to beat" I had my reservations. I didn't want Perez back. Despite the year Delgado had in 2008 I still thought he was fragile and the Mets should have looked for a replacement. The starting rotation. The leftfield situation. And don't even get me started on Castillo. I felt the Mets sat on the sidelines while some free agents were signed.
This year is I have found it very hard to watch or listen to a complete game. Too many mental mistakes, no timely hitting, iffy starting pitching. Even if the Mets get back all the injured players the only place the Mets will be lucky to "vault" to is 3rd place.
I am and always will be a Mets fan, and its hard for me to say it, but for me, I'm done with 2009. Lets Go Mets 2010!

Watching the game last night as always. The second baseman we should have had, hits an easy out to the overpaid, lackadaisical second baseman we do have - who promptly bobbles the ball and throws a lazy toss to first. Runner safe! I look at my five year old son, who's been watching the Mets with me for four years and is a Mets fan even though his mother is a Yankee fan. I say to him "it's a tough time to be a Met fan". He says to me, "I'm a Yankee fan, they are winners". To which my wife shouts out "woohoo"! Everyday this team makes me die a little more inside.

I'm sick and tired of Mets mgmt talk about hope. Success doesn't just fall out of the sky. You actually have to do something to be successful. Omar is taking a pass on doing his job and is the first one in line as a paycheck collector without giving a day's effort.

Looks like DeWitt showed us that it's possible to hit a definitive HR in Citi. I actually enjoyed seeing it, even thought it was the other guys. The pitching performance (or lack thereof) was totally irrelevant as they never had a chance anyway. The team has no offense to speak of and faulty defense. So what's to be expected? For all their lousy record, I think the Nats are playing sounder fundamental baseball from what I've seen.

Sell the team please, so new mgmt can be brought in and we can push the restart button.

I've been a Mets fan for 40 years, been to three fantasy camps, and this is the most pathetic display I have ever seen. Not only is the team horrendous, but the whole organization is a joke...from the owners, to the GM, to the medical staff.

Now we're hitting popups and having the players call for it? I can't believe it! Major league ballplayers need to practice calling for popups? What do they do in the minor leagues...hit off a tee?
