Pagan Activated, Evans Demoted, Maine Pitching Again

Outfielder Angel Pagan has been activated from the disabled list. To make room for him, Nick Evans was sent down to Triple-A. Evans was batting .256 with one homer and six RBIs in 43 at-bats. Pagan will start tonight in center field and bat leadoff against the Reds.

John Maine, who has been out with a pinched nerve in his shoulder, threw off a mound today and reported no problems. Jerry Manuel said he was pain free, and he could be nearing a minor league rehab soon.

Also, Philadelphia outfielder Jayson Werth was picked for the NL All-Star team Friday as a replacement for injured New York Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran. The Phillies now have all three outfielders on the NL roster. Left fielder Raul Ibanez was elected by fans to start and center fielder Shane Victorino won a spot in Internet voting for reserves. It’s the first time in 37 years that an NL team sent three outfielders to the All-Star game — Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell and Al Oliver went for Pittsburgh in 1972.

  • Great for the Phils – BARF!

  • Why do the Mets keep sending people down? Evan just got here. He was doing OK with the bat, but hie fielding left much to be desired. can’t they keep Evans on the bench?

  • angel in the outfield.
