Ed – Keep writing these posts about the three Fernandos – you are doing a great job with them. I am re-learning the lyrics to the song so that I can sing along with my fellow Scandinavians the ABBAs. Everyone is talking about the Fernandos!!

Great article! Last night was my 1st game at Citifield and the 3 Fernandos were a big part of it. Whenever Pujols came up to bat, I would begin to quake with fear that Nieves would not be up to it. But he was masterful, retiring him on a flyball and then pitching carefully around him with 2 walks. Those accounted for 2 of his 4 walks and were a product of good pitching rather than wildness. The other 2 were to Schumaker who battled at the plate to stay alive. Tatis came back from his DP in the 1st inning to be an offensive force in the game. His last single was professional, punching it through a hole in the IF as they were charging in to shorten their anticipated throw. But careful bat control took care of that. He also played 3 positions, LF, 1B and 3B without a flaw. FMart showed he is comfortable in CF and will pay dividends in Beltran’s absence. His base running was excellent with his heads-up in going from 1st to 3rd on Evan’s infield hit. The crowd noticed and responded with cheers. Great choice of a game by me for my 1st at Citi and it was pleasing to see the Cards and their Evil Genius Mgr get their come-uppance. The better team won and the clowns were the other guys this time.

I actually like that rotation and bullpen, although, I think once Maine does gain his arm strength back, he needs to be in the starting rotation, with Redding moving to the bullpen, as he is more suited for that role.

Y Carrumba! Best of the 3 Amigos: Ferndando “So Much More than Sosa” Nieve; Best candidate for AAA: Ferndando “I don’t look like a terrorist” Martinez; Best candidate for Omar’s scrap heap: Fernando “DP Machine” Tatis. Nieve combines incrediby nasty stuff with an intelligent mound presence to dominate 3 quality opponents. He’s a keeper and the new poster child for Omar’s “thinking outside the box.”
Santana, Nieve, Pelfrey, Livan & Redding…looks good to me. Bullpen? K-Rod, Maine, Parnell, Stokes, Green, Feliciano & Ollie. I think Maine and Ollie need to build arm strength.
