Ground Control, Is Sheffield Next, Who Stole The Good Tarp?
Joel Pineiro aka The Beast That Swallowed New York was unbelievable last night. The sinker-baller stymied the New York Mets, and induced 22 ground outs in a 3-0 shutout Tuesday night at Citi Field. It was his second shutout of the season, and he didn’t allow a runner past second base. The Mets didn’t even hit a flyball until the fifth inning. All we can do is tip our caps as Keith likes to say, or we [...]

Altering the Expectations
Like most of you I could not wait for the 2009 baseball season to begin. I felt the Mets were most definitely the team to beat in the National League. Omar Minaya did an awesome job rebuilding the bullpen by adding JJ Putz and Frankie Rodriguez. The Mets offense had no problems hanging crooked numbers on the scoreboard. This was going to be our year. Then the injury plague came. Never in my wildest dreams [...]

Please, No More WBC for the Mets
Going into the WBC, everyone knew that this tournament would end up hurting a teams chances to winning the world series. That team is the Mets. The Mets led all major league teams by sending 15 players to the WBC. Almost half of them have landed on the DL this season. Coincidence? I don’t think so. JJ Putz, Alex Cora, Carlos Delgado, Jose Reyes, Oliver Perez, and now Carlos Beltran have all landed [...]

…And Then There Was One
Please do not be alarmed. That’s not a picture of David Wright getting injured. But the way things have been going for the Mets lately, would you be surprised if it was? The rash of injuries to hit the Mets continued this week with the news that Carlos Beltran would have to be placed on the disabled list with a bone bruise in his right knee. He joins a number of Mets players on the [...]

F-Mart It’s Your Time To Shine!
For the last 4 years we have been hearing about Fernando “F-Mart” Martinez. The 16 year old was praised as the future of the New York Mets. F-Mart was the 5 tool player that the Mets were going to make into their next superstar. There were growing pains of course, the last couple of seasons F-Mart was injured. Some were wondering if F-Mart would live up to his expectations. The 2009 Mets as we all [...]

Sammy To The Hall of Fame? Say It Ain’t Sosa!
Former Cubs second baseman Ryne Sandberg, levied some harsh criticism on Sammy Sosa and his Hall of Fame chances. According to Sandberg, a Hall of Famer himself, Sammy Sosa does not belong in the Hall because of integrity issues associated with the steroids era. While a guest on ESPN 1000 radio today, Sandberg said: “They use the word ‘integrity’ in describing a Hall of Famer in the logo of the Hall of Fame, and I think there are gonna be [...]

The New Shea Stadium – View from the Caesars Club Seats
In 2007 – for the first time in my life I fulfilled a lifelong dream and became a Mets season ticket holder. Some friends and I ended up splitting 2 seats 4 ways – and visions of playoff games after the stunning near miss of 2006 danced in my head. The last time I had anything close to access to this many Met tickets was my childhood in the late 1970′s and early 1980′s – [...]

09′ Mets Motto – We’re Not Gonna Lay Down And Die!
There are two things a ballclub that has been decimated by injuries can do: Slide their gloves back on their handlebars and peddle home dejectedly, or adopt an “us against the world” mentality. Last night, the Mets showed the latter. And, why not? What do they have to lose now that all is lost? The pressure is off Jerry Manuel because the groceries he was given this spring have molded from the summer rain. Omar [...]

The Cardinals and Mets Rivalry
With all the injuries to the 2009 Mets reminding me of the 1987 Mets, and with the St. Louis Cardinals in town for a big four game series, it got me thinking about the great Met-Cardinals rivalry of the mid 1980′s. To borrow a line from Keith Hernandez “You kids out there who are new to the game” may not realize that once upon at time, the Mets and Cardinals played together in the Eastern [...]

According to a tweet from Bart Hubbuch of the NY Post, Jose Reyes and trainer Ray Ramirez were involved in a car accident. Jose Reyes and the Mets trainer were in a car accident on the Triboro Bridge today. Reyes was not injured. Reyes and Ray Ramirez were hit from behind by a fire truck. Are we living in the Twilight Zone or something? NJ.com writes, Injured shortstop Jose Reyes and Mets trainer Ray Ramirez were [...]
