It was a tough game to watch tonight at Citi Field, as the Mets were shutout by the Yankees 5-0.
Alex Cora’s single in the sixth inning was the only hit the Mets had tonight, as the Yankees came so close to pitching the first no-hitter at Citi Field… For the second day in a row!
What I found most puzzling is that after getting shutout by Burnett at Yankee Stadium on June 16th, I expected the Mets to come out swinging, and instead they were still clueless and inept even after they got a good long look at his stuff a week ago.
Read it and weep…

The Mets lineup featured four players hitting below .250. Gary Cohen mentioned in the broadcast that the Mets starting lineup had a combined 21 homeruns, while the Yankees had 76. We are clearly overmatched by them.
In the last three games against the Yankees, the Mets have been outscored 29-1.
Sadly, Omar Minaya reiterated before the game that they will not be making a deal for a big bat.
Tim Redding started the game and he did battle Burnett for five innings after allowing a solo homerun to Nick Swisher, but it all came crashing down in the sixth inning when Redding allowed four hits on four consecutive pitches with the back-breaker being a three-run homer by Jorge Posada.

Not only did the Yankees maul us, but the Yankee fans mauled us too. This idiotic Yankee fan not only interfered with what looked like a certain catch by Wright, but he pounded his chest and taunted Wright after the ball was deflected to the ground. Yankee fans have no class…
The Mets are now 1 1/2 games out of first as the Phillies won 10-0 tonight.
Livan Hernandez will be on the mound as the Mets look to salvage the last game of the series tomorrow.
Okay here goes… Lets Go Mets!
There… I said it…

David Wright was playing tonight?
How embarassing…
Oh and I MISS BELTRAN!!!!!!
I miss Reyes, Delgado, and Beltran. COME BACK PLEASE!!!!
Maybe, just maybe, the Mets should look into adding someone who can help them on offense. Only 1.5 games back, no need to play a lineup that couldn’t compete with the Nats right now.
Bright side: At least they weren’t no hit tonight.
Hey, Joe…I think your “0″ got stuck while you were doing the boxscore. No? It didn’t? Wow, we really were that bad tonight.
Hope we don’t make Chien-Ming Wang look like Cy Young tomorrow night. I’ll be there. Don’t make me watch a sweep!
I usually dont post a boxscore unless it’s something noteworty, but just looking at that boxscore tells you everything you need to know about tonight’s game, and saved me from having to pound out another 200 or more words. By the way, check your email.
That Yankee fan who interfere with Wright’s attempted catch should be crucified.
Actually, isn’t Security supposed to toss people out of the Park for interfering with play? That guy should have spent a night in the clink. That would have shown him what for!
Guess Omar’s right! We don’t need an additional hitter. After all, we still got a hit last night. Maybe we’ll up the performance 100% and get 2 off Wang. That will establish an uptrend.
Just to add salt to the wounds, the Cards picked up DeRosa for Chris Perez and some miscellaneous stuff after we just finished kicking Chris Perez around a few nights ago. Looks like there wouldn’t have been much difficulty for us to beat that offer. I think it simply comes down to $$$. Fred and Jeff just don’t want to spend any more than they already have to. We’re in this race with a concrete boot on one foot. Pretty tough to run 400 meters that way.
I can’t believe the gaul of that Yankee fan pulling that sort of stuff at Citi Field. We we seriously risking being beaten up as he left the stadium!
Another nightmare game. Of course it was even worse that the philies has their nice little 10 run shutout. Just when these Mets get our hopes up they drop them again. that being said, I have high hopes for Sunday’s game. Wang just needs to keep on doing what he has been doing.
