Up until this Cards series, what was keeping the Mets in the race has been the collapse of the Phils, not the managing of Jerry Manuel. The Mets had been losing 2 out of 3 for series after series until the Cards came to Citi. You can't be competitive if you're playing .333 ball for extended periods. Hopefully, the Cards series represents a genuine change in performance. With the Cards series, the fundamanetal play was strong almost error free and with no base running blunders and with sound mgmt for the first time in a long time. If Jerry can keep performance up to what was achieved with the Cards, I will agree with you. But for now, I think the verdict on Jerry still needs to be confirmed with consistency. The proof will be in the pudding (that's a silly old saying).

Jerry Manuel might get fired one of this days and probably be replaced by Bobby Valentine (???) but he will probably be elected Manager of the Year when the awards are handed, and that is because people with baseball intellectual knowledge appreciate the efforts in managing a team with basically no superstars, lack of pitching, second class players, unappreciated fans, bad press and is keeping this team in the race to the playoff. He is showing why he was previously Manager of the Year and his value keeps increasing every day, is really sad that we as fans are watching one of baseball finest manager and we are not appreciating it...

Sure can't complain about this series with the Cards. The Evil Genius LaRussa gets foiled by the forces of good. Is Nick Evans back on track? If so, what great timing! JMan is finlly evening out the work load across the Bullpen and now they're getting the job done. FMart is starting to look like a vet in CF. Alternating the catchers is keeping them rested and paying dividends in offensive contribution. David's BA is going out of sight and the RBI's can't be far behind. The rotation is hanging in tough even with 2 guys out of commission. Can we keep this formula working especially through the Yanks series? I guess it's true: Ya Gotta Believe! The time may be now to make a serious move on the Philthies. LGM!

I like Evans at 1B. He was taking some grounders there Monday night during BP. On the F-Mart catch, I saw it from the Promenade level - 2 hands on the diving grab. I'll bet it went unnoticed on TV.

Nick Evans BETTER be in the lineup tomorrow playing 1st base!
Oh wait! Daniel Murphy got a bloop pitch hit today so that means he'll play 1st base tomorrow vs the Yankees even though it's a tough left handed pitcher cause Manuel has a "hunch." Evans will not play because he has had 2 back to back 2 hit games. Manual has a "hunch" that a rookie left handed singles hitter will do better against one of the best left handed pitchers in MLB. Nick Evans BETTER be in the line up playing 1st base on Friday!
Sorry. .. had a Manuel moment there. HEY! We're only 1.5 games back!!!!
LETS GO METS!

With apologies to Ernest Thayer, the writer of "Casey At The Bat", here's my version of the last stanza...

Oh, somewhere in this Flushing sky, the sun is shining bright
The organ is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout
Today there is joy in Metsville - mighty Yadier has lined out!

Awesome game from the Mets today, I love the fire in the "b" team. After Beltran went on the DL this team did not give up. We are now 1 game behind the Phillies, hopefully Tampa Bay will come through with a win tonight.
