My favorite Mets team will always be the 1986 team. I actually think the 1999 team was better than the 2000 team, even though the 2000 team went further in the playoffs. Let's hope the current team can pleasantly surprise us by turning things around so that in the future, someone can say the 2009 Mets were my team!

I remember this game very well. However, to me, it is a depressing article. I'm 21 years old and I grew up loving that team. A bunch of guys that came together and fought threw everything to win when they had to. They didn't have the most talent but somehow found themselves in the middle of every game no matter how much they were down. This team we have now....they aren't Mets to me. I'm ashamed to watch them play and call them my team, even when healthy. I'll take piaza, zeile, ventura, and fonzie over reyes, delgado, beltran, and wright ANY day of the week. Those guys had heart...they made every game exciting. In 2000 I watched every single game. No matter where I was I found a way to watch at least a good portion of each game. I find myself watching anything besides the mets this year. I'll sit down and try to watch but I just can't. Theyre an unexciting bunch of whiney cry babies. I truly do miss MY ny mets.

I have that game on tape - it is one of the most exciting games and it happened at the height of the Brave/Met rivalry. Outstanding.

You're right. When I went to my first game at Citifield, I felt like I had landed on Mars even from the moment I stepped out of the bus after a 3 hour ride from upstate. It's just not right. I never in my life thought I would make it to Mars in my lifetime.

I remember like it was yesterday, the first game the Mets played after the attack in New York City on 9/11. I was there at Shea to witness Mike Piazza hit the home run that set the crowd roaring, and gave the City high hopes for the rest of the year. The Mets were truly special back then, and in that game they took it to the Braves which gave people that feeling that the Mets were a team you could rely on to keep your emotions intact.

The Mets of today are different. When I see Citi Field I get discouraged, because in my opinion, Shea stadium was a better field, and the memories there were truly remarkable. You could always re-track the events that took place and feel good. You could always hear the roar of the crowd and the shaking of the stadium and feel good. Citi Field doesn't have that same feeling. It feels hollow.

Things with the Mets right now are different. And that's something I'm trying to get used too. From the team, to the field, to the management, to the decisions. It's hard to feel positively about the future of our Metszies.

I too was at that game. I don't remember exactly where my seats were, but I was in the Upper Deck, a little to the left of home plate. I was at the game with my friend and his sister. And like you said, when Piazza hit that homerun, we were hunging everyone around us. It was as if we just won Game 7 of the World Series. I have been to a lot of Mets games over the years, but that one is the game I will NEVER forget.
