Its rediculous. Even when he gave up 9 runs, they didnt score a single run for him, so it wouldnt have made any difference. The poor guy goes out there every 5th day and has very little chance of winning. Not b/c he isnt a brilliant pitcher. Because his teams forgets how to hit. So when he does have a once-in-a-while bad outting like last week, we cant be ripping him apart. Had his offense done their job every time he went out there, giving up those 9 runs would mean nothing. His lack of run support just magnifies the rare occasions when he is not on, and that's so not fair to him. What more can we ask of him??

okay. so everybody was in a dither over if Santana would be back to his old self or give up another 9 runs. Turns out that it didn't make any difference. Johan was back to his superhuman self....and the hitter were back to their sleeping selves. How long will this go on?

This was a brilliant post and good description of how frustrating it is to see the Mets squander these solid performances from Johan. It boggles the mind how often we the fans have witnessed this type of game where the offense fails to carry a solid pitching performance. This team is in such desperate need of a tremendous power hitter. I look at all these teams we have been playing and they have players with 12 or 13 or 15 or 20 homers. Every team seems to have to 2-3 players in double digits in homers. How can we possibly compete when we keep firing blanks?
