Mets Win 4-3 On A Beltran Walk-Off Walk!
Wow, what a finish!
The Mets just won a heck of game thanks to some clutch hits, clutch baserunning, and the biggest play of the game… a clutch walk!
That’s right, a walk-of walk!!!
Carlos Beltran was at the center of all the action, and Mike Pelfrey pitched a hell of a game holding Atlanta to just 2 runs in 7 innings.
Frankie Rodriguez also came through with two solid innings in the 9th and 10th that earned him the win.
Jose Reyes went 2-5 with a run, two ribbies and a BIG stolen base!
I’ll have the regular game recap later on, but considering how special this win was, I wanted to get something up right away!
Lets Go Mets!

Went to my first Mets game, a Mayors Trophy game at Shea, in '73. We beat the Yankees 8-4 and I was hooked. I marched in two Banner Day parades, and before the Grand Slam single, there was the "Hendu Can Do" grand slam - I was there. I've collected Mets memorabilia all my life and started Mets Merized Online to feed my addiction.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! Look at the guy’s rear end!!!!
What a freaking awesome amazing game!!! I thought for sure we were going to lose this after Putz gave up that thrid Atlanta run. Shame on me!!! I should have believed!
Haha, nice pic, Joe. Really adds the spice to the win.
Uh-huh….What about all the doubters during the game???? They r different this year…it shows with Beltran he is determined…I never had a doubt.
P.S. Nice Pic Joe. D…ROTFL!!!!!
In a game like tonight, I think the doubters were justified. Thank god for Beltran though.
Great emotional victory! Does that streaker kind of remind you of the guy in the parachute in 86? It was a great omen for the Mets then, maybe it will be for us in 2009.
There’s something huge about this game that everyone may miss…Jerry Manuel pinch-hitting for Daniel Murphy in the 8th in a BIG situation…When he did it to Castro a short while ago, it lit a fire under him so big that could’ve engulfed all of Queens, and the team shot off. If Jerry pulling Murphy has even a FRACTION of that impact on him, watch out.
Wowiiieeee!!!
Look, we played like crapola till the 8th, but no matter what it takes–patience, the other guys’ mistakes, bad umping–you have got to stay in the game and keep plodding. We legged this one out, and it feels so fine!
Big Pelf was good, but they hit him soldly. In the end, his performance this time was a little better than last. Definitely like what I’m seeing w/ him.
SOme bad mistakes tonight, but in the end the Braves made more. I think it’s safe to say their BP sucks. Good Luck w/ that, Atlanta.
It will be fantastic to win tomorrow.
I think this comeback win is the “crack” of the surface for amazin’ things this season….lol
See what happens when you believe?
Great freaking game. I think this was the most important win of the season for the Mets so far. After losing that game to Atlanta after the seven game win streak was demoralizing, and the Mets easily could have just rolled over. But no, the come back to win last night and say, well, that winning streak is over, time to start another.
And especially a come from behind victory, was absolutely huge.
This team, the way its playing right now, reminds me much more of the ’06 Mets than the ’07 or ’08 Mets. Coming from behind, scoring early and often, and putting crappy teams like the Pirates away.
I can’t wait for Niese to pitch well today and for the Mets to take the rubber game.
The Mets NEEDED to win this game after yesterday’s disaster. They were not looking much better until the 9th inning. I had no beef with Jose trying for a triple…yeah of course he should have stayed at second, but fact of the matter is, he would not have scored anyway…the next batter made an easy out. If they had lost after bothering to tie up the game it would have been misrable, so I am more relived about this win than happy.
