The BMets showed tremendous fight today, repeatedly coming back from multi run deficits, but they couldn’t seal the deal, thanks in large part to an abysmal relief outing from Eric Brown, who gave up 4 runs of his own (and allowed 2 IHR to score). Tobi Stoner started and was very effective, even if wild, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks in 6.1 innings. Roy Merritt allowed a run on a hit in 0.1 innings, before Eric Brown’s awful outing began. Stephen Clyne pitched a perfect top of the 9th.

The Mets offense had 11 hits and drew 2 walks, and were a very good 5 for 10 with RISP, leaving just 3 men on base. Emmanuel Garcia, Josh Thole, DJ Wabick and Ruben Tejada had multi hit games for the Mets, while Lucas Duda and Shawn Bowman (hitting 45 in the order) were a combined 0 for 7 with 3 Ks.

Despite a stellar relief outing from Nick Carr (4 ip, 3 h, er), he was tagged with the loss, giving up the tiebreaking run in the 8th inning, after Carlos Guzman capped off his great day with a game tying RBI double in the 7th. Guzman (3 for 4, 2b, 3 RBI, K, .305), Ike Davis (1 for 4, 2b, 3 Ks, .281) and Francisco Pena (1 for 4, .208) were the only Mets with hits, everyone else took 0-fers.
