Mets Notes: Daniel Murphy Batting Third, Playing Leftfield

Now there’s something I didn’t expect to see when I got a glimpse of today’s lineup…

Daniel Murphy is not only playing leftfield in todays matinée, but he will also be batting third for the first time in his young Mets career.

It doesn’t say much for Jerry Manuel’s confidence in David Wright lately as even with Carlos Delgado out of the lineup, Wright still finds himself batting in the five spot. Oh, how the mighty have fallen… I’m just kidding of course, but still this move says more about David Wright than it does about Daniel Murphy.

Incidentally, David Wright now leads the National League in strikeouts and is on pace for a 200 strikeout season.

Here is the rest of today’s lineup:

Jose Reyes, SS
Alex Cora, 2B
Daniel Murphy, LF
Carlos Beltran, CF
David Wright, 3B
Ryan Church, RF
Fernando Tatis, 1B
Ramon Castro, C
Johan Santana, P

Let’s hope this lineup shakeup works, and more importantly I hope it get Wright back on track because when Wright is on, he’s still the best number three hitter on this team.

Go gettem’ Johan!
