Mets Cut Lefty Reliever Loose

Adam Rubin of the Daily News is reporting that the Mets have released lefthanded reliever Valerio de los Santos.

The veteran reliever, who was in major-league camp at the start of the spring, had drawn positive reviews, including for his willingness to help young players, but he got caught up in a numbers game.

This probably bodes well for Ron Villone more than anyone else. (He just got tagged for 4 runs as I write this.)

I have a strong feeling Bobby Parnell may be close to locking up a spot in the pen. So many good things are being said about his performance this spring by Manuel, Schneider and most of the Mets beat writers.

Went to my first Mets game, a Mayors Trophy game at Shea, in '73. We beat the Yankees 8-4 and I was hooked. I marched in two Banner Day parades, and before the Grand Slam single, there was the "Hendu Can Do" grand slam - I was there. I've collected Mets memorabilia all my life and started Mets Merized Online to feed my addiction.

  • Villone is getting ripped right now against the Tigers.

  • Villone looked like dogmeat out there, and the worst past was that the lefthanded bats were the ones that did him in.
I say screw the second lefty and keep O’Day, Parnell and Stokes.

  • its been awhile, but didnt villone suck hardcore for the yanks 3 years ago? I’m not pumped having villone on the team, hope management made the right choice.
