Livan Impresses, Garcia Doesn’t

Livan Hernandez gave up one run and five hits through 5 innings with 3 strikeouts to bring him closer to the fifth rotation spot to start the season. The one run came in the 5th. Hernandez induced 6 groundouts and 6 flyouts among the 18 batters faced. His spring ERA now stands at 3.07, which is much better than the guy who relieved him against the Braves today at Tradition Field.

Freddy Garcia was hit for five runs and seven hits in 2 innings. The big blast came when Martin Prado hit a 3-run HR against Garcia with two out in the 6th. Garcia recorded 2 strikeouts among the 13 batters he faced. His spring ERA now stands at 16.71, and he took the loss.

Ron Villone pitched a scoreless 8th, giving up a hit and a walk. Fernando Tatis, playing 3B, hit a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 1st. 2B Andy Green hit a 2-Run HR in the 9th.

That accounted for all the scoring as the Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 7-4.
