Backup Outfield Spots Still Up For Grabs

Marlon Anderson, Jeremy Reed, Angel Pagan, Cory Sullivan and Bobby Kielty are in a heated battle to claim a spot on the Mets bench as the fifth outfielder.

It looks like Manuel will have a tough decision to make when the time comes as all four are making strong bids to stay with the team.

It was believed that Anderson’s spot was a lock, but that doesn’t seem to be the case now. Anderson is batting .367 and drove in the game winner on Friday.

Cory Sullivan had three hits today to raise his spring average to .278, while Kielty had two hits today including a double and an RBI. He is batting .250.

Angel Pagan is having the best spring so far and is batting .467, but has been recently sidelined with a sore elbow.

Jeremy Reed is batting .267 but is highly regarded for his defense and ability to play all three outfield spots. Some believe his spot on the roster is secure.

Meanwhile, Dan Murphy who has been tabbed as the starting leftfielder, is batting a solid .290 with a double, triple and stolen base. He leads the team with six runs scored and 13 total bases. A little less nervous now?
