Man, some of these baseball rules are tough to follow, haha. (Rule 5, Type A/B free agents, arbitration)
If he can rehab it and come back, you’re right it doesn’t make sense to keep him and Green. I wonder what they could get for either one of them?

I agree with Joe, in the original article I wrote, I ended my statement with a discussion about O’day’s injury.
Here’s the deal: Its an injury that can easily be fixed with surgery, but O’day went the rehab route instead. Now the Mets know they need him on the active roster 90 days, so we’ll see what happens.
The alternative to this story is that the Mets flip O’day. I am pretty sure, but I’ll need someone to check, that if you trade a Rule V draft pick, then all of the contract issues with the Rule V guy go with him to the new team, and the players brought in via trade, as long as they are not Rule V, do not have those clauses. (I’m sure who would be banging down the door for O’day right now though).

I knew he was injured, but why would the Mets take him when the Rule 5 draft clearly states he must be on the Mets active 25 man roster for 90 days? Or he gets returned to the original team.

Guys,
Do a Google search of O’Day. He tore a labrum in his shoulder this year and is out for all of 2009…
I thought the same thing you guys did before I looked him up.
