Believe it or not. The first game I ever went to was Helmet Day at Shea in 1973 also.
It was actually the Montreal Expos they played. I remember that because Ken Singleton made a fantastic play in right field for the Expos and John Milner hit a home run that day. The first one I ever saw live.
Regardless, it was a great day because the Mets won.
BTW…this is my favorite Mets site.

Now THAT would be very sad indeed…
For some reason I avoided becoming a Skankee fan in a family full of them too.I can’t imagine rooting for another team, even after years of heartbreak and disappontment.Hopefully things will change this coming season.

everyone in my family was yankees fans and it’s hell to be around them during the holidays most of them are die hard fans but at least now one cousin and my dad became met fans, the greatest fans out there!

My dad was a Dodger fan (although he was from Brooklyn so that made sense), but God Bless your grandfather for being SO smart!!!! lol
My love affair started around the same time. I even saw Willie Mays hit his last career homerun!
Some days it can be frustrating to be a Met Fan – but I wouldn’t trade it for anything…….
