Teixeira May Get A Gigantic Contract Next Season
If you think the Barry Zito, C.C. Sabathia, or Johan Santana signing were huge, get a hold of this:According to a source from a team who is involved in negotiations, the
Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles “are coming in hot” on
Teixeira, with the Nationals apparently willing to offer the slugger a
10-year deal for more than $20 million a year and the Orioles willing
to go nine years for at least $20 million a year.
Yes. You did read correctly. The Nationals are willing to pay Teixeira more than $20 million a year for 10 years while the Orioles are willing to play Tex $20 million for 9 years. That is just insane! Teixeira is from Maryland so the Orioles would be closer to home, however Washington D.C. isn’t that far away.
Just the fact that Teixeira can walk away with at least $180 million is ludicrous. Whatever happens, he’ll be one extremely rich man. Oh, and I still don’t think that the Nationals will be THAT much better if they do sign Teixeira.
This is going to definitely be an interesting topic to follow.

Went to my first Mets game, a Mayors Trophy game at Shea, in '73. We beat the Yankees 8-4 and I was hooked. I marched in two Banner Day parades, and before the Grand Slam single, there was the "Hendu Can Do" grand slam - I was there. I've collected Mets memorabilia all my life and started Mets Merized Online to feed my addiction.

Unbelievable, the Nationals are spending money, a mediocre expansion team and a team in a top market is trying to lower their payroll.
Just another slap in the face to Met fans from Wilpons and Omar.
I’m with you all the way except for:
“Oh, and I still don’t think that the Nationals will be THAT much better if they do sign Teixeira.”
They’ll have added one of the best all around players in baseball – they’ll definitely be improved if they sign him. Plus they would be able to trade Nick Johnson who still has some value despite his injuries. I guess you mean they still won’t make the playoffs or whatnot?
Yes James, that’s what I meant.
They will definitely be better, just not enough to be better than the Mets and Phillies.
