Phillies Get Raul Ibanez
Jayson Stark of ESPN, is reporting that the Phillies have signed Raul Ibanez to a three-year contract
He writes,
The Phillies have agreed to a three-year contract with free-agent outfielder Raul Ibanez, pending a physical. The deal is believed to be worth $30 million over three years.
Ibanez hit .293 with 23 HR, 110 RBI and a .358 OBP at Safeco Field, a notorious pitcher’s park. He also played in all 162 games last season.
He is one of just five outfielders who have driven in at least 100 runs in each of the last three seasons.
I’m guessing he could easilly top 30 homeruns in that bandbox they play half their games in.
Just what the Phillies needed… Another hard-nosed gritty player with a clutch bat who is a clubhouse leader.
The deal signals the end of the road for Pat Burrell and the Phillies.
So lets see…
They now have a lineup that features Shane Victorino, Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, and Ryan Howard. Hmm…
Maybe now the Mets will focus their attention on Bobby Abreu and who knows, “Pat the Bat” as well.

Went to my first Mets game, a Mayors Trophy game at Shea, in '73. We beat the Yankees 8-4 and I was hooked. I marched in two Banner Day parades, and before the Grand Slam single, there was the "Hendu Can Do" grand slam - I was there. I've collected Mets memorabilia all my life and started Mets Merized Online to feed my addiction.

Phillies sign Ibanez
good!!!
Omar get Manny
i agree every one is against getting him but face it he is a great hitter and any team he has ever been on wins he may be a jerk at times but i think jerry manuel can keep him in his place and i want anyone who can help up rip apart those philly bastards cause im really getting sick of there all the b.s talking smack
This is not a good signing for Howard. He will now see more lefty relievers in later innings if the 4,5,6 spots come up late. His production vs. lefties is dramatically different vs. righties.
Go Philadelphia Phillies..! Hope Ibanez would be of great help to the team..
JUst say no to Manny. Besides Manny is retiring. Don’t you guys watch ESPN?
As soon as Manny stops crying becuase he’s “very depressed by the lack of interest” in his free agency he’s putting in his papers. Happy retirement Manny! Go retire to the Philipines “dolla go long way here and pinoy poontag love you long time.”
We need a right handed bat so forget about Abreu please. No use trying to shove that square piece into a round hole. I actually would not mind having Pat “The bat (only against the mets)” in our lineup. He will have a reason to try to stick it to the phils and can probably give us some pointers on how hit and pitch against those guys.
We should go after Manny, wherever he goes his team wins, that’s a fact.
So what are the Mets going to do besides getting K-Rod and Putz? We still have 2 rotation spot to fill, we need more than a platoon of Tatis and Murphy at LF.
I guess Alex Cora will be our other big signing.
