Mets Making A Move On Tim Redding

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the Mets, are now attempting to sign free-agent right-hander Tim Redding, according to his major-league sources.

Redding, 30, is seeking a two-year contract, and in 33 starts last season, he was 10-11 with a 4.95 ERA.

Rosenthal also believes that the Mets will still sign either Derek Lowe or Oliver Perez, in addition to Redding.

On Saturday, the Daily News quoted Redding’s agent who said the following,

“The Mets are very much in the mix for Tim, he’s a Northeast guy and loves the city,” agent Tim O’Connell said of Redding, who is from Rochester. “We’re still relatively early in the process, because Tim just got on the market, but we definitely are considering New York, 100%.”

It really looks like this Tim Redding deal will get done, as many signs seem to point in that direction. I applaud the move, but I’m still hoping that the Mets will add another left hander to the rotation.

I know that Lowe is a safe pick when compared to Oliver Perez, but I don’t see how any team can survive in the National League East with just one lefthander in the rotation. At this point the Mets need every edge they can get.
