Drinks, Steaks, and Francisco Rodriguez
There must be nothing better than an ice cold beer in a frosty mug, and a perfectly grilled medium rare steak, to satisfy your appetite while you are negotiating a huge, multi-million dollar contract.
That’s exactly what Omar Minaya and his entourage did during the waning hours of Sunday night with their special guest, free agent closer Francisco Rodriguez.
No word on if K-Rod ordered a New York strip, but I wouldn’t bet against it.
General manager Omar Minaya, his assistant John Ricco, and VP of player development Tony Bernazard, all dined with Francisco Rodriguez for over four hours Sunday before returning to the Bellagio shortly before midnight.
Minaya, who has a flair for these things, gave no details to reporters about what transpired, but judging from the smile on his face, it may only be a matter of time until the Mets get their man.
The flamboyant general manager, did happen to mention that he expected to meet with Brian Fuentes and Kerry Wood as well on Monday, but if you read between the lines, he’s just going through the motions at this point.
Forget all those ridiculous notions you’ve read about the Mets trading for a closer, that’s more fiction than fact.
The object of the Mets’ desire is clearly K-Rod, and we might have a closer sighting and a press conference, at the new Citi Field sooner than you think.
About the Author: Joe DeCaro
Went to my first Mets game, a Mayors Trophy game at Shea, in '73. We beat the Yankees 8-4 and I was hooked. I marched in two Banner Day parades, and before the Grand Slam single, there was the "Hendu Can Do" grand slam - I was there. I've collected Mets memorabilia all my life and started Mets Merized Online to feed my addiction.

Steak is always a winner. The only thing that would make this better would be if the steak was grass-fed beef; stronger flavor and healthier for you.
