The New Prince Of Thieves

Last night, while the Mets were messing around with your sanity, Jose Reyes took off for second base in the third inning and swiped his 48th base of the season. It was also his 282nd steal as a New York Met passing Mookie Wilson on the All Time Mets stolen base list.

Jose Reyes is now the Mets all-time steals leader. He actually went on to steal his 283rd base moments after his record breaking achievement.

The fans at Shea rose to their feet after the centerfield scoreboard acknowledged his great achievement, and they roared with approval as Reyes tipped his cap to the Shea faithful.

“It was good. Everybody stood up,” Reyes said. “It was kind of special. I’m not here to break any record, but when I break one, I have to enjoy it.”

Reyes is now on the verge of his fourth straight season of at least 50 steals.

Congratulations to Jose Reyes, the new Mets All-Time Stolen Base Champ!
