According to several reports that are citing Mets sources, Billy Wagner will be activated on Tuesday when he becomes eligible to come off the disabled list.
The Mets are an impressive 21-9 since Wagner was put on the disabled list, but there is no denying how much he has been missed in the bullpen.
Yesterday, during his regular weekly spot on ESPN Radio 1050, Billy Wagner said the following,
“I feel good and I am ready to go. I can’t wait to join my teammates and contribute.”
He also added…
“I know what my job is and I know what I’m best suited to do, but we’re trying to get into the playoffs and I want Jerry to know I will pitch in any role necessary even if it means not being the closer.”
Talk about a great “team first” attitude. Don’t worry about it though Billy…
You will certainly be used exclusively as the closer for the rest of this season, however if the Mets get K-Rod in the offseason, we reserve the right to revisit this situation.
Hey… I’m just saying…

It will be great to have him back. He definitely has the right attitude putting the team first. Despite a 21-9 record in his absence, I think it’s safe to say most of us, if not all missed him!!!
I for 1 am shocked by these comments, but in a good way. When Wagner makes headlines more often than not they tend to be for the wrong reason, and not very team oriented. I know everybody and their mother wants K-Rod but read the ESPN the Magazine article on him first. He may be 26 but he’s already lost velocity from topping 95 when he first came up to now topping 92-93. The way they keep throwing him out there makes me think they’re going to ride him until the wheels fall off much like Milwaukee’s doing with Carsten Charles. The naïve part of me says they’re being great team players, the realistic part of me says they’re going to get paid next year regardless of what may happen down the road…
I can’t stand this guy Wagner! But I love his 96-98 mph moving fastball! Yeah, he doesn’t mind pitching in the 8th inning and oh my God! he is willing to come into the game with runners on base! What a guy! But oh so sorry! My agent won’t allow me to violate the terms of my contract with the New York Mets which states I am not to enter any game with runners on base. Lets see the signed waiver tht Wagner has signed!! What a jerk! Is this guy running for President or is he a baseball relief pitcher! Just shut up and throw 96 mph strikes when Manuel tells you too! This guy! Always with the dopey comments!
He has a big mouth, but since hearing his spot each week I found him to be a nice guy.
