On The Campaign Trail With Jose Reyes
This upcoming November, we all will be electing a new President to lead this country. However, a far more important election this fall will be who is named Most Valuable Player of not only the National League, but also Mets Nation.
Jose Reyes quietly has been putting up MVP-like numbers all season long, all the while with a big smile on his face. Reyes leads the league in at-bats (524), triples (13), and multi-hit games. He is currently second in stolen bases (40), third in total hits (158), fifth in runs scored (88) and total bases (258), and is batting .304. Although he has commited 13 errors on defense, he is tied with last year’s Gold Glove winner David Wright in that category.
He may not dazzle the league with huge power numbers, but Jose Reyes is either in or around the top 5 in almost every offensive category in the Major Leagues. He does everything that is asked of him by Jerry Manuel, and is one of the main reasons the Mets have revived their season and are now back on top in the NL East. By not being voted onto the All-Star team last month, I think Jose is last years version of Jimmy Rollins (except more talented of course). Often being labeled as immature by the media, hopefully Jose Reyes will be hoisting a couple trophies this fall to shut all his nay-sayers up once and for all.
So remember, this election, dont vote Obama or McCain…. vote REYES.
