My Two Mets Christmas Wishes
I don’t believe there will ever be another baseball setting that will ever conjure up the feelings and emotions that build up inside me whenever I walked through the turnstiles at Shea Stadium. For the longest time I used to save my half of the ticket stub that was returned to me by the ticket attendant. To me it was going to be a special day whether the Mets won or lost. I used to [...]

Matt Cain Or Tim Lincecum, Might Do The Trick For The Mets
On the last day of the Winter Meetings, word spread that before the Mets traded Lastings Milledge to the Nationals, he was involved in another potential trade with the Giants for Noah Lowry. David Lennon of Newsday, wrote the following… Another interesting development from late in the winter meetings was the revelation that the Mets talked to the Giants last month about acquiring lefthander Noah Lowry, according to a person familiar with the situation. San [...]

Billy Wagner May Be Right
In a recent interview, Billy Wagner said that he thought the Mets were, at best, a third place team. With the Winter Meetings here and gone, and only the loss of Lastings Milledge to report, he may be right. The thing I don’t quite understand about the Milledge trade is why we couldn’t package him along with a couple other prospects, send him to Oakland, and get Dan Haren or Joe Blanton. Billy Beane may [...]

Winter Meetings Finally Over, We Can All Exhale Now
What a bummer. You wait all off season for the Winter Meetings to begin… you build up all this energy and excitement… and then what do you get? Nothing… Zero… Nada… In the meantime, we were bombarded with one outlandish rumor after another which were composed of 10% truth and 90% cow dung. For almost four days major league GM’s huddled in Nashville and after all was said and done we got one blockbuster trade [...]

Omar-Stiltzkin Strikes Again
Last night at 2:30 am the New York Mets reached an agreement with the Minnesota Twins for ace lefty Johan Santana. The Twins reportedly will receive the Mets minor league affiliate in New Orleans, Jose Reyes, David Wright, and Al Harazins’ soul in this blockbuster deal. The Mets have reached an impasse in discussions for Orioles stud Erik Bedard, as the package of Billy Wagner, Mike Pelfrey, Carlos Gomez and David Wrights’ firstborn son were [...]

Phillies To Make Offer On Erik Bedard, Mets Interest Wanes
Philly Metro is reporting that Pat Gillick has offered a package of players to the Baltimore Orioles for the highly sought after pitcher, Erik Bedard. The Phillies managed to squeeze into the playoffs at the end of September despite the poor overall starting staff. But with that in mind, general manager Pat Gillick has turned his attention to a front-line starter at the MLB Winter Meetings this week. The latest rumor in their hunt for [...]

Three Reasons to Keep Jose Reyes
In a stunning development Wednesday, a blockbuster deal involving the Mets, the Twins, and the Athletics was proposed. The deal would send Jose Reyes to the Athletics and Johan Santana would be a Met. Like most of Mets Nation, I would love to have Johan Santana, but we need to keep Jose Reyes for these three reasons: 1.) Jose Reyes is a proven star. This deal would most definitely go down as arguably the worst [...]

The Winter Meetings Have Been Pretty Un-Amazin’ So Far
Frustrating… For a team that played .500 baseball since June of last year… for a team that blew a historic seven game lead in a matter of two weeks… for a team who was manhandled by the Florida Marlins and Washington Nationals… I would have expected a far more aggressive pursuit of a top starter, a top reliever, and a power laden left handed bat. Instead we are treated to an assortment of canned talk [...]

Knock, Knock… Can Ben Sheets, Dontrelle Willis and Roy Oswalt Come Out And Play? No, Go Home!
I just read an interesting article from Dan Graziano at the Star Ledger, that was chock full of interesting little tidbits for Mets fans this morning. Let’s start off with this quote where he states that the Mets went-a-knockin’ and nobody was home… While they have tried to engage the Marlins about Dontrelle Willis, the Astros about Roy Oswalt and the Brewers about Ben Sheets, they have been told that those pitchers are not available. [...]

Are The Mets Closing In On Erik Bedard Tonight?
WFAN beat reporter, Sweeny Murti is at the Winter Meetings in Nashville, and apparently has reported that there there is news floating around that the Mets are close on Erik Bedard. Nobody else on either side can substantiate this report and it makes me wonder if it’s just speculation. Some Mets sites are running wild with the story, but I think we’ll just take a wait and see approach here at Mets Merized Online. If there is any [...]
