Are The Mets Closing In On Erik Bedard Tonight?

An article by posted on December 3, 2007

WFAN beat reporter, Sweeny Murti is at the Winter Meetings in Nashville, and apparently has reported that there there is news floating around that the Mets are close on Erik Bedard.

Nobody else on either side can substantiate this report and it makes me wonder if it’s just speculation. Some Mets sites are running wild with the story, but I think we’ll just take a wait and see approach here at Mets Merized Online.

If there is any further news or rumors on this story, I will continue to update this post.

The only thing we know for sure is that Erik Bedard did confirm that he will not sign any contract extension with the Baltimore Orioles.

UPDATE: 11:53 PM

MLB Rumors is reporting…

According to major league sources, the Mets are very close to acquiring Erik Bedard in exchange for Phillip Humber, Aaron Heilman, Ryan Church, and a player to be named later. This seems a little low knowing the Orioles in trade discussions, so I expect that they may be in talks. It is possible they offered Kevin Mulvey in the deal too, that could probably get it done, but I will look into it.
