Hey Mr. Rollins, Are the Phillies STILL the Team to Beat?

Good Evening, Mets fans, and Happy 2nd Monday of the off-season…  I’ll make it short and sweet today… The Phillies were NOT the team to beat in 2007, in fact, the Mets were.  And the only reason Philadelphia was able to rise to the top of the NL East is not on their own success, but rather, on the failure of the New York Mets to hold their own.  As most Mets fans would agree (and [...]

2007 Mets Report Cards: First Base, Second Base

Today starts the first part of the Mets report cards. Six staff members for Mets Merized, including myself, each compiled a grade for each position and it’s respective player(s). Without futher ado, I present to you the Met Merized 2007 Report Cards. The first part will feature First Base and Second Base. First Base (Carlos Delgado and Jeff Conine) Ryan P. – 2007 wasn’t the brightest spot for the Mets. The players just [...]

Your Mets Hot Stove Season Has Come – Part 2 of 3

On Friday I took a look at all of the weaknesses the Mets needed to address this off-season, and focused on why they should re-sign both Luis Castillo and Paul Lo Duca. This morning I wanted to delve into the outfield situation. Let’s start with left field which was handled quite well by Moises Alou last season… when he was healthy. He had a consistent season for the Mets and batted .341 to lead the Mets, [...]

Your Mets Hot Stove Season Has Come – Part 1 of 3

With the first two considerable moves of the off-season now out of the way, the Mets are in full hot stove mode. With Tom Glavine declining his player option and Willie Randolph officially being retained, the Mets must now go about the business of filling some major flaws and in the process, resurrect the confidence of the fans which has been largely shattered. When you consider the dearth of talent in this year’s free agent [...]

Losing Makes Me Snippy

Well, here we go, another fall and winter filled with free agents and trade rumors. Granted, part of me always enjoys the off season. Who is going where? Why and for how much? Let me just say that losing that 7 game lead hurt almost as badly as that Yadier Molina home run in the NLCS last year. Jimmy Rollins in my opinion was wrong. The Phillies weren’t the team to beat, the Mets allowed [...]

Is This The Mets Cable Network, Or Not?

Before I start this off season debating, assessing, and blogging about the team, I must first address an issue that has bugged me all year long… I’m talking about the Mets cable network SNY. For months and months I have been bombarded with way too much Yankees coverage and not enough coverage of the team that pays the bills for that network, namely the Mets. I am sick of tired of seeing advertisements that feature Derek Jeter which [...]

They Are All To Blame…

Who do we blame exactly? Perhaps the most puzzling questions being swirled around the fall winds of Flushing are not that of who Omar Minaya should keep and who should be shipped to Osh Gosh for a bag of balls. Rather they are centered on responsibility… and who indeed is accountable for the demise of the New York Mets. I for one have begun my long grueling journey back from the despair and tragedy that brought [...]

Mets News: The Walking Wounded

John Maine learned that he has been playing with a bad hip for most of the second half after receiving the results of an MRI. It may explain the big drop off in his performance shortly after the All-Star break. He will learn later today whether he will need surgery. If he does, it will not prevent him from being ready to go come Spring Training. Damion Easley expects to be running again and rehabbing next [...]

Omar And Willie: Joined At The Hip

It is being reported in several sources that Mets General manager, Omar Minaya will soon meet with the ownership group to present his plan for 2008. We have learned that Omar, will suggest keeping Willie Randolph on as the manager for the 2008 season. Several reports suggest that the Wilpon’s have told Omar that if he decides to go with Willie Randolph next season, that his fate will be tied to that decision. Apparently the [...]
